How to use LinkedIn like a pro

Many personal trainers use Facebook and Instagram to get clients however they often avoid LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is a hidden gem for getting clients; the main reason people avoid it as they just don't know how to use it.

Like every platform you need to learn how to use it in the way in which it was intended in order to get the best out of it.

LinkedIn is full of business people and a great way to make connections with businesses and their staff.

So if your ideal client is a stay at home mum with 3 kids, LinkedIn probably isn't for you.

If your ideal client is a business owner, entrepreneur or career oriented person you've hit the jackpot.

Follow these simple guidelines to build your LinkedIn profile so you can get the most out of it.

Go pro

Have a professionally done photograph. If you don't have a professional photograph you'll stand out like a sore thumb - and not in a good way!

If you can't get a professional profile picture done, use a professional looking photograph. Think clean, smart and simple. Would you work with your profile image? That's what people will think.

Update your profile

Remember that perspective clients will be visiting your page. You want to show them how you can help them.

So in first name put your full name and where your last name put your slogan/problem you solve.

So when someone sees your profile they know who you are and what you do.

Use the summary

The summary is for your sales copy; the web copy you have on your landing page would be ideal to use here.

You want to let people know that are visiting your page that you can solve their problem.

Be clear on your goal

It is important to know your ultimate goal here.

What is it you want to achieve?

Be mindful of this and make sure what you're posting and sharing is inline with that.

Do you want people to join your group?
Do you want people to sign up to your newsletter?
Do you want to have a consultation call with them?
Do you want to go straight in for the sale? Something low value, your tripwire would be ideal.

Once you know what you want you can ensure your content is succinct and you use the appropriate call to actions.

Update your content

To build your authority and boost your status you need to consistently update your content just like any other platform.

There is a 'publish an article' option; this is where you post your blogs. This means you don't have to create extra content you just use the blogs you're already creating.

If you're not blogging consistently due to lack of time, you should look at outsourcing this. I have some people I can recommend if you've had bad experiences.

Blogging is a very important part of building an online business.

Have an opt in

Just like you would on your sales or blog page have an opt-in for your irresistible freebie.

If your current freebie isn't fitting for the LinkedIn world create a new one or offer a consultation call instead. A short 15-minute call will help build a relationship with them.

Connect with people daily

Make it your mission to connect with 10-20 people daily.  Yes it's time consuming and a bit of a pain but it's worth the effort.

You see anytime you publish an article on LinkedIn all of your connections get a notification telling them.

How great is that! This means more people are more likely to read it and obviously you have a CTA at the bottom sending them to your website.

Groups

Like Facebook you can have a LinkedIn group and you use it in a very similar way to be honest.

The difference is, when you own a group you can have an email series to welcome new members. The idea in these emails is to get them onto your email list so you can build a relationship with them.

As soon as you open your group, make sure your about section is filled out using keywords and language that your clients would use.

Upload some posts and some content that they will find useful and be consistent. If you're not sure what type of content to share or what to put in your about section, checkout your competition for some inspiration.

If you don't have time to run a group you can still use groups to reach your goal. It's similar to how you would use a Facebook group to build like, know and trust. Check out our blog for further help >> How To Get Clients from Facebook Groups

Statuses

Like Facebook and Twitter you can post a status to share with your connections.

The great thing about this is if one of your connections likes, shares or comments some of their audience will see it too.

LinkedIn statuses are to be used for snippets of information. Think helpful hints and tips to help your audience as well as asking questions to increase interaction.

Paid Ads

Like other platforms LinkedIn has a paid advertising option. The great thing about the lead ads is you use such a wide range of targeting options.

I would suggest not advertising to your 1st connections as you can freely message them direct.

This is a great way to build a targeting audience and there is a lot less completion that there is on Facebook.

Some of the things you can target by are:

Relationship (Connection)
Location
Industry
Profile Language
Seniority Level
Title
Company Size

You can also choose what they are interested in however this is not always accurate.

You can target people in certain groups too (as long as you are a member).

Test and adjust, see what works and what doesn’t to find your sweet spot.

Tools

There are several tools you can learn to scale and optimise LinkedIn.

Buffer.com this allows you to preschedule and share your content

Feedly.com this allows you to easily share 3rd party content your audience will like.

LeadIQ, LeadeFuze can be used to scrape emails from LinkedIn connections so you can use for your Facebook ads. Some use this to put connections on their email list. I would not suggest putting people on your email list without their prior permission.

By using their email address to target with Facebook ads you are giving them the choice to opt-in and they will be more engaged and interactive as they chose to.

Calendly.com calendar booking system automation so that prospects can book calls in and you set allocated times for calls.

Elink-pro.com automates views of 800 profiles per day. It will show these 800 people you have viewed their profile and in the hope that they will see and will connect with you. ( you must have a LinkedIn Premium account to use this)
